Rainbow Laces 2021 - Lace Up & Speak Up
Submitted by Holly Lewis - Equality Lead
Today is Stonewall's Rainbow Laces Day and for our match against Newhaven FC we tied up our rainbow laces to show support for the campaign.
The campaign this year centres on lacing up and speaking up. Visibility is important, but alone is not enough. That’s why Stonewall are evolving rainbow laces from a symbol of inclusion to one of commitment. Here is a helpful '10 tips' guide on how to step up as an ally to LGBTQ+ people in sport: https://www.stonewall.org.uk/10-tips-step-ally-lgbtq-people-sport
What can Seagals do?
Pronouns - I'd like to include pronouns on our ‘Meet the Seagals’ page on the club website.
Non-gendered language at training – moving to non-gendered language creates an inclusive environment for all. For example, The MCC committee replaced ‘batsman’ to ‘batter’ in the laws of cricket. I am going to put together a proposed plan for how to encourage this at training and matches.
Thank you for lacing up! You can find out more about the Stonewall #RainbowLaces campaign here.
